Anastasia Romanov

This version of Anastasia from the animated movie from 1997 was my final major project at Arts University Bournemouth. I interpreted and made my own design based on the final dress from the movie. I chose to incorporate more historical elements but also did research on Russian Imperial court fashion from the time period the real Anastasia was alive.

My version is heavily inspired by Victorian and Edwardian fashion. I wanted the Victorian shape with an elliptical crinoline but chose Edwardian style corset and chemise. Other than being historically inspired I'm a big fan of everything embroidery and crystals. I designed, digitized and embroiderd over 10 appliques for the skirt and bodice including the embroidery on the front of the bodice. The appliques were sewn on by hand and then decorated with tiny rhinestones for extra sparkle.

The entire costume has more than 1500 rhinestones glued on individually by hand.

In total, the costume took over 400 hours to make and materials worth over £500.
