Alice In Wonderland

For our last big project at college, we put up a Norwegian version of the well known Alice in Wonderland stories.
The theme of the story was set in a psychiatric hospital to mimic Alice's travel through wonderland. All of the actors got a task to find and study a mental illness that fits their characters and as the costume designer, I tried to give each one costumes that fit with their personalety.
Take Alice as an example. The director chose to split the role into two people to symbolise schizophrenia. We gave the actors the same costume but in two different colours so they would be the same, but still different so it would be more clear to the audience that this was two parts of Alice but still just one Alice. We went with a lolita inspired garment to symbolize Alice's inocent and childish thoughts and personality.
The mad hatter got a doctors jacket to symbolize that he was the doctor that Alice's thoughts had made into the mad hatter.
All the other characters are seen in white t-shirts at the beginning of the play to show that they are all patients in the same psychiatric department as Alice
